Alerts - what is it?

Mobile phone usage is widespread and almost every mobile phone can receive SMS/text messages. Mobile networks cover 90 to 99% of the population and thus it is a convenient method to send out alerts and critical notifications. Delivery is almost instantaneous, and once a message is delivered to a phone, the sender is able to receive a delivery notification. In addition to this, recipients can be asked to acknowledge a task assignment or a simple message reception by sending a text message reply.

Examples

  • Send alerts and notifications:
    • Server and network monitoring
    • Staff information and task assignement
    • Action trigger (i.e. SMS messages sent to distant systems)
  • Require acknowledgement
    • Two-way alert scenarios
    • Advanced emergency alert procedures (i.e. halt upon confirmation reception)
