What is Premium SMS, SMS MO, SMS MT, Short Code, Shared Short Code and Dedicated Short Code?

  • Premium SMS. SMS invoiced at a higher rate than a normal SMS message. User sends an SMS to pay, and at the end of the month this payment is added to his/her mobile phone bill. The user pays the operator, the operator pays mpulse, and mpulse pays you.
  • SMS MO. mobile originated, i.e. sent by a mobile phone to you.

  • SMS MT. mobile terminated, i.e. sent by you or your application to a mobile phone

  • Short Codes: Numbers used to address SMS and MMS from mobile phones. They are significantly shorter than full mobile numbers, and therefore are easier to read and remember than normal mobile numbers. In many countries, each Premium Short Code has a particular price-range (the price paid by the consumer), that cannot be modified.
  • Dedicated Short Codes : Enjoy exclusive usage of a Short Code and the possibility to run a large number of applications on it. They allow you to avoid involving your brand-name with others.
  • Shared Short Code : End-users type a distinctive keyword in their SMS to access your service and you benefit from lower setup and monthly fees.

Can I charge any amount with Premium SMS?

Normally not, you can only charge specific prices (example: 0.50 €, 1€, 2€, etc.). Furthermore, in most countries each Short Code has a specific end-user price, with certain exceptions such as Germany for example. To discover the available price-ranges (i.e. price the user pays per SMS), please contact us..

Do you have a database with mobile numbers we could send advertisement to?

No, Mpulse does not have or offer any database. Mpulse marketing tools are designed to make people interact with your brand after seeing a message you have placed on your point of sale, packaging, or advertised via traditional communication means (television, print, etc.).

What is the best was to promote my SMS contest?

If you have direct control over a big number of point-of-sales, or a mass-consumption product: points-of-sale and/or packaging is the best way to get return on investment.

Alternatively, we strongly recommend print and television as preferred means to advertise your campaign.

Contests broadcasted on the radio are successful when integrated to the radio station’s program, i.e. when the radio speaker announces the contest (as opposed to promoting the contest during a traditional radio advertisement).

During large-scale events, mpulse recommends to do the promotion on large-screens or via the speaker at the event.

The return on SMS contest promoted on websites tends to be quiet limited because the process lacks simplicity (I’m already on the internet, why do I need to go get my mobile phone?); and because people are used to getting everything for free on the internet.

How much do I receive out of the Premium SMS price a customer pays?

From the amount paid by the mobile consumer, the mobile operator takes a portion (20 % to 60%), mpulse keeps a share (4 % to 15 %), and you keep the rest.
Thus it highly depends on the country of the mobile operator in question.

Top

Why do operators and mpulse keep part of my revenues?

The services provided to you by mobile operators and mpulse are partly charged under a form of commission, retrieved directly from your revenues, in order to avoid complicated cash-flow back and forth. Mobile operators in return provide you with access to their infrastructure, invoice your transactions to their customers, ensure those bills are paid and take the risk of losing clients if they ever happen to be unsatisfied with your service, since non-savvy mobile consumers often turn to the operator (not us nor you) when unsatisfied with content download for example.

Top

How and when do I receive the revenues generated by my service/application?

The delay varies from 60 to 90 days, depending on the country. mpulse guarantees you receive payout as soon as operators pay us.

Can I import/export my existing contact database?

To export your database:

  • Go to Contacts > People > Export
  • And choose your Export file (Excel or CSV)

To import your database

  • Export a database (see above) to see how the information must be placed : each column corresponds to particular type of information (name, number, etc.)"
  • To import your database, you must create an Excel sheet with the exact same layout (numbers in the number column, names in the name column, etc.).
  • The mobile number
    • must be in the following format: 352621000000
    • thus it must include international dialing code (352 for Luxembourg, 33 for France, 32 for Belgium, 49 for Germany)
    • no + or 00 before,
    • no space before or after,
    • no points, or special characters (/ or . for example)
  • To send SMS to a group of contacts easily, enter a description in the "Group column": a same word or number for all the contacts in that group, inserted in one of the last column (named "Group")

Caution: when you import a database it deletes your old database!

How can I receive SMS?

Clients of Luxembourg mobile operators may send an SMS to your Contacts account. All they have to do is write an SMS starting with your login, followed by a space and then their text, to number 64111.
Example: I entered MPULSE as login when I created my Contacts account, "To subscribe to our SMS newsletter, send MPULSE via SMS to 64111".
You choose this login when you first create your Contacts account. So be cautious: choose a short word, without accents, that is not difficult to spell.
To receive SMS from other countries, you will need to apply for a Longnumber. With a Longnumber, people simply send an SMS to your number, without having to start their text with your login.
